As part of my Pilgrim Project, or year of planting seeds, I developed some “pillars,” or rather words I felt were important to explore in the year ahead. My word for January was Consciousness. It was the first word because I felt it was an underlying theme for my entire year. I have a mission statement and I simply want to be aware of my actions in every moment. For February, it was vice. Living in the city of sin made me aware of the distractions, or vices that come with living in a city. It means being conscious of living with clarity instead of artificial feelings of low self-worth and apathy. It means believing that you can be the change you wish to be in the world. I began Knowmads last month among other projects including a conceptual muti-media art exhibition and writing a book with another Knowmad. This month, the month of my birthday, I am beginning to see the benefits of attempting to achieve these goals in my life. Furthermore, I am beginning to ask myself the big questions behind them, exploring what they mean to me.
Why am I trying to achieve this goal?
What do I hope to achieve by doing so?
How can I measure, or design the project while in the process?
By attempting to be more conscious of the vices, or distractions in my life, I am exploring synchronicity. In the book The Inner Path to Leadership by Joseph Jaworski. He explains that “when we are in a state of commitment and surrender, we begin to experience what is sometimes called synchronicity.”
It comes down to seeking balance in your life. A balance between discipline and flexibility, questioning traditional living and exploring alternatives, dancing between conformity and non-conformity, and not just thinking about what you want out of life, but also feeling your way through it.
Carl Jung says this about synchronicity:
“When coincidences pile up in this way, one cannot help being impressed by them—for the greater the number of terms in such a series, or the more unusual its character, the more improbable it becomes.”
Ask, be open to the moment, and the answers will come. In other words, eat your walnut, and wait for it to digest.
