“Pilgrims are persons in motion- passing through territories not their own– seeking something we might call completion, or perhaps the word clarity will do as well, a goal to which the spirit’s compass points the way.”
“Pilgrims are poets who create by taking journeys.”
– Richard R. Niebuhr
You? A pilgrim looking for meaning and innovation in your life pitched as progressively positive posts portraying life as pilgrimage. Written from the perspective of a social entrepreneur, pilgrim, and plain old passionate, young human being.
You are walking through the mountains in complete solitude. It is silent. You put one foot in front of the other, you move step by step. The fresh air at high altitude clears your mind. It heightens your vision. You descend each mountain, however, with only a slight glimpse of what’s ahead. You gradually reach the bottom of the steep passage. You rest. You are tired. You don’t know what is ahead of the mountain that lies before you. You know there are more of them to come.
You know that the task ahead of you is an admirable ambition, but you feel it is missing… something. You sit at a nearby bench and open your water canteen. The water is refreshing for your parched mouth. Exhausted, you gloomily stare at the looming ascent that lies before you. You stare down at your aching feet, yet you continue to propel yourself forward.
With each step, you realize the true possibility that exists in each moment. You distort your perception of time and reality and realize that you can do anything. All you have to do is continue putting one foot in front of the other and taking each moment step by step. Your senses heighten to a point of clarity. You become more aware of what each moment can hold, but equally aware that although you can’t predict what the future will bring. You simply take an active role in where you want to go by just putting one foot in front of the other. Subtly, you begin to see an alternate sort of reality, a path you never thought existed before. You begin to see the path as quite longer than you had initially expected. You realize the path never ends and you are the only one in control of where it takes you.
May the stars light your way and may you find the interior road! Farewell!
