Glimpse, other changes…

So, my website has undergone a bit of a make-over. I have a new banner photo, a new photo format, and have cleaned up the long post into more condensed previews. Finally, I changed my About page (colors may be off, sorry, so read below) to something I recently wrote as my statement of purpose for the National Geographic Youth Correspondents Program I think it fits me a bit better, and over time, will be the backbone to creating a business from this website…

Our grandparents were builders. Our parents were thinkers. My generation has elevated both these qualities to the next level. We are beginning to build and think using our feelings. In this sense, I would loosely define us as a generation of “artists.” I use this term in the most non-traditional sense. As a matter of fact, the very definition of this generation is steeped in non-tradition and the inability to conform. Although we may be artists in a variety of different mediums, we are also like-minded artists seeking autonomy from a society that has mastered the art of fear through mass hype and hysteria in media and politics.

As an artist and student of the world, I hope to introduce the people in my generation who are breaking new ground. Let’s face it; most of the things we currently have aren’t working properly, or at least not as well as they could be. This is great news for my generation, and my hope is to help them better understand how they fit into it all. We are now living in an age of increased automation and out-sourcing where those who are able to think “outside the box” are gaining momentum at a record-breaking pace. Imagine all the people in this world who hand over 40+ hours a week to a job they hate. What I hope to better understand this year is how to invest that time to make a drastic change in the life of not only myself, but also better understand the enormous effect this can have on the greater good.

I want to empower youth to think in a way they never dreamed was possible. I have established a personal one-year goal of visiting a socially-innovative arts collective in each European capital. My hope is to not only explore the collectives themselves, but also the sustainability they’ve created by doing what they are truly passionate about. Personally, I am hoping to discover my own potential by completely living my life how I choose, unconcerned with what my family, friends, or society may think. I hope through spreading my story and the story of other like-minded artists, I can inspire others to take control of their lives and begin to live the life they’ve always dreamed of.
