If there’s anyone still out there who hasn’t completely lost faith in me, hello there. First, I’d like to say I’m sorry. Next, please allow me to explain…

Ironically, this is another post involving the swine flu. I was never actually diagnosed with it last time, so I feel I cannot be to blame for the outbreak that went down here. I never would have imagined that such an ugly thing could have happened in such a beautiful place. Each day, our numbers continued to dwindle…

Ellis Island Day- As the children walked through immigration, they were assigned an American name, converted their euros to dollars to make general store purchases, and had their cell phones and candy confiscated. All the while, nobody would have suspected the dreadful hacks and wheezes to come.

Discover America Day- A normal pleasant first full day. The counselors and campers are in good spirits.

Hit Music Day- My day off; a great stroll through the vineyards and the small nearby village of Azé.

American Athletics Day- The weather takes a drop, it rains, and athletic events go indoors. The children get rowdy and counselors begin to get tired. A bedwetter is discovered and picked on for the rest of the week.

Hollywood Day- We take a field trip to some nearby caves. First case of swine flu is reported, we lose our first counselor to Laryngitis. The children stop listening. I host Hollywood night skits, and end up backstage crying. A girl shit in the shower that night.

Halloween- We’re down half the counselors and 20% of the children. Director is found crying in her office, multiple children in isolation rooms, countless phone calls from parents, complete lack of structure between 4 counselors and 40 kids (myself included)

We did carve pumpkins, though!
